Originally from Chengdu, China, Jingqiu Guan is an independent filmmaker, dancer, choreographer and scholar. She currently serves on faculty at Duke University as Assistant Professor of the Practice of Dance. Jingqiu has presented her dance films and documentaries in a number of film festivals in the US, the UK, India, Norway, Spain, Austria, Mexico, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, and won major awards. Centering voices and expressions of women (particularly mothers), immigrants, people of color, as well as people of disabilities, her works engage with the exploration of cultural identities, motherhood, and address issues of racial justice and disability justice. Jingqiu has earned a PhD in Culture and Performance from UCLA, an MFA in Dance Performance from the University of Iowa, an Ed.M from Harvard University, and a BA in Economics and French from Saint Mary’s College (IN). She is also the producer and creator of a children’s show on YouTube Kiddos Show.
